4 more ways to network in solar

Updated: Jan 31, 2021

Last week’s post had a lot of information in it about online communities in the various social networks. Over the last few weeks, I’ve been scouring the internet for solar-related communities, news-outlets, and events. It’s changed my perspective on some aspects on the market, most importantly that there are people out there who are willing to help you figure things out. If you don’t know the best technique to install a battery or Geocel a piece of flashing, someone out there can and will help. It’s not all butterflies and rainbows. There are a lot of critics out there too. Maybe you relish a good argument or just want to improve. There’s something for you if you look.

Now, if you’re like me, social media empires have long since figured out how to keep you scrolling through their ads. Perhaps you’ve stopped going onto social media sites in order to be more productive. Social media is not the only way. There are still other ways to keep up and not be left behind. Check out a trade association, blogs, solar news sites, or podcasts too. Please note: The mentioning of a site on this page does not constitute an endorsement by Coperniq, its staff, or investors.

Trade associations

Trade associations usually require membership and dues plus some other form of qualifying credential like completing a course or passing a test. Some examples would be the AIA, USGBC, or The National Association of Realtors. There are trade associations and certifications for solar professionals as well.

NABCEP | North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners

SEPA | Smart Electric Power Alliance

SEIA | Solar Energy Industries Association

If you’d like to see more solar associations, check this post on SolarFeed:

Blogs

Depending on what your goals are, blogs can be a great tool to get in on the conversation. If you’re wanting to learn, nearly every solar organization has a blog of their own. Leave comments, start a conversation, and earn a reputation.

Greenmatch has a list of 10 solar blogs that they recommend.

Check out Feedspot’s more exhaustive list of 75 solar blogs.

News sites

News sites and blogs have a lot of crossover. These ones below are more news than blog, IMO.

Podcasts

If you don’t have time to read but still want to learn while you exercise/drive, podcasts are a fantastic option.

Continental Energy Solutions Solar Podcast

This list is by no means everything that’s out there. If you know of something else that should be listed here, please let me know nick@coperniq.io.
